Release a planning
What is release?
When PTV OptiFlow Route Planner is used to plan and optimize routes for operational execution, ‘Release’ refers to publication of the routes for downstream modules.
Each release for a plan reflects a snapshot of only the released routes in the entire plan at the moment the you click Release. Each subsequent release will contain all released routes, both those from the previous releases and those in the latest release.
How can I release (part of) my plan?
When you click on the release button in the last tab to navigate to a select your routes for release.
Here, it is possible to
choose which fields you want to see: driver, vehicle ID and/or start time.
sort the routes based on driver, vehicle ID and/or start time.
filter the routes based on the start time of the route
filter by vehicle labels.
Currently, it is only possible to release a full route. It is not yet possible to release part of a route.
What can I do after I have released my plan?
Identify released routes
The routes that were included in the latest release of the plan are designated with a paper airplane icon. It is not visible in OptiFlow Route Planner which orders were previously released.
If an order is part of the scope of more than one plan, it can be released from both. Today, there is no check or indication that an order has already been released from another plan.
Edit released routes
If your route is not locked, you can still make the following changes after it has been released:
drag orders into released route
remove orders from released route
drag orders to a different sequence within a released route
If you make any changes to a released route, the downstream systems will only be made aware of these changes after you re-release your plan.
If changes were made to the route in downstream systems while you were editing the route in PTV Optiflow, re-release from PTV Optiflow might result in those changes being lost.
Continue the optimization
PTV Optiflow will not change or re-optimize released routes.
Release your plan with additional routes

Remove routes from the release
Click Release on the planning tab
Uncheck the released routes that you want to unpublish for downstream systems.
Click Release in the release list
The plan will be re-released without the routes you unchecked.
What if I changed a route that has already been released?
When a route that has already been released changes, it is required to re-release this route to make sure these changes are also available in downstream systems.
A red dot will appear on the planning tab to indicate that some actions are required
The message indicates that you must press the release button to pass this change on your underlying systems.
In the planboard, the previously released routes that contain changes are flagged with a warning. When hovering over them, you will receive the following message.
Re-release your plan with modified routes
Click Release on the planning tab
Your previously released routes will already be automatically marked for release. The modified routes are flagged with a warning symbol
Click Release in the release list
The plan will be re-released with the routes you checked (including the modified routes).
How can I retrieve released routes?
The released routes can be retrieved using the planning API.
With this API it is possible to retrieve a list of plannings and their metadata, which includes information about when a planning has been released.
Further, the metadata also contains the planning id to identify the planning. This planning id can be used to
retrieve a released planning using this API
identify the released planning in PTV OptiFlow by copying this id into the URL, as illustrated in the screenshot below.
At the moment, the planning id in the URL will change to an internal planning id after the planning has opened. However, it is still the same planning.
